The Brass City Regional Food Hub is located at 359 Mill Street and 777 South Main Street in Waterbury, CT. The Brass City Food Hub is not isolated but is part of the City’s prioritization of adaptive reuse and redevelopment in the Mad River Corridor, a historically disadvantaged community located in the City’s South End. Redevelopment plans for the five sites in the MRRC are cohesive to provide an array of resources for a historically underserved community. The Food Hub has investments totaling over $2M from Municipal, State, Federal, and philanthropic funding sources.

359 Mill St. was remediated, and the majority was redeveloped in 2019-2020 (Phase I), with a partnership between the City of Waterbury and the non-profit organization, Brass City Harvest, coming to fruition. Phase I of the Food Hub facility comprises a 6,000 sq ft and provides a year-round “farmers market” to the South End neighborhood, along with a large-scale washing station for produce. The Food Hub supports the economy through the creation of jobs and workforce development opportunities and distributes USDA Farmers to Families food boxes to area residents.

Phase II/III of the Food Hub encompasses the remaining portion of 359 Mill St, and 777 South Main St. Phase II includes the remediation of the adjacent parcel, 777 South Main Street. Phase III would address redevelopment of the remaining portion of 359 Mill Street and 777 South Main Street. Redevelopment plans include ~50 raised community garden beds, an outdoor kitchen, beekeeping area, native plant landscaping to continue the trend of agricultural-based adaptive re-use of the site at 359 Mill St and marketplace/retail café & constructing greenhouses at 777 South Main Street: expanding the Food Hub’s operations from 359 Mill Street into 777 South Main Street.
