The Chase Building, constructed between 1917 and 1919, originally served as the Chase Brass and Copper Company鈥檚 headquarters until 1963. The City purchased the building in 1966 and has continuously used it as a Municipal and Board of Education office building. The building was designed by Cass Gilbert and is a Second Renaissance Revival structure on a grand scale. The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as one of five structures, along with the City Hall Building, that comprise the Waterbury Municipal Center Complex, also known as the Cass Gilbert National Register District. The Chase Building is also listed as a contributing structure of the Downtown Waterbury Historic District. The building renovations are currently being designed by Friar Architecture Inc. We anticipate that renovations will begin January 2026.
